Obese Guy has Surgery for Weight Problem and Comes Out with a Better Brain
It almost sounds like the beginning of a joke. There's an Obese British guy who went to the hospital for surgery to cure his weight problem. The surgery fails but, his memory is much better as a result. What?! What is the story here? Well, as a last resort this guy agreed to have deep brain stimulation of an area of his brain that controls appetite. During the surgery the patient had an intense memory of an event he experienced 30 years ago. Now the memory areas of his brain are working better, purely by accident. This surgery certainly failed to produce the desired results but, it has potential for other patients with memory problems. So there is a silver lining. Clearly, today's Odd News Award Winner! http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/scientists-discover-way-to-reverse-loss-of-memory-775586.html
